Ruben Newell,

Ruben Newell is in his twelfth year teaching. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Iowa State University in 2000, and National Board Certification in 2008. He is currently Band Director at Denison High School, where he oversees the 9-12 band program. His duties include directing the athletic bands (marching band and pep band), concert band, and two jazz bands.

Prior to Denison, Mr. Newell taught in Ames, West Des Moines, Corning, and most recently spent seven years as director of bands at Atlantic High School. He is a member of IBA, SWIBA, DEA, ISEA and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, as well as numerous collegiate honor societies. He is an active clinician and IHSMA adjudicator, and is a past-President of SWIBA. Currently, Mr. Newell serves as Webmaster for the Southwest Iowa Bandmasters Association and is the assistant director for the Southwest Iowa Honor Marching Band. His performance opportunitues have included the ISU Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, the ISU Saxophone Quartet and Clarinet Choir, the Cyclone Marching Band, the Central Iowa Symphony, the Karl L. King Muncipal Band of Fort Dodge, and the SWI Sax Quartet. Ruben and his wife currently reside in Denison.
